In his video, Henry Jenkins explains how story telling is evolving with the advancement of technology. You use to need a professional video recorder but now all you need is your cell phone. Story telling is an important component of our society because it is through these stories that we are able to express ourselves and indulge in our creative elements. I agree with Jenkins. Now, everyone has access to share a story. Sharing a story can be as simple as taking you cell phone to film your own version of your favorite video and film. This allows for individuals to create their own versions of a story.
As we discussed in class, three of the most common franchises in Trans Media story telling are: Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars. While we mentioned that story tellers are not able to introduce new characters that have not been introduced in the franchise, it’s still great to see how fans are able to continue a story they enjoy very much on their own. Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars are three huge franchises that have touched the lives of many individuals. By allowing fans to twist the stories, these franchises are only making their fan bases stronger.
